Frederick Conrad Harvey, born 12/8/1936, died 3/6/2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Fred was the loving husband of wife Phyllis (Ramer) Harvey, the proud father of daughters Jodi (Stephen) Tanner and Erin Harvey, stepfather to Triesa (William) Hodgson and Mark Ramer, and grandfather to Alexander Harvey-Capes, Justin and Evangeline Hodgson, and Paul and Alicia Ramer. He is survived by all.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Fred received a degree in engineering from Michigan Technological University. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an electrical engineer for RCA and later Thomson Consumer Electronics. Fred and his first wife Phyllis (Conway) Harvey raised their girls in the Shelbyville area, where Fred actively remodeled their farmhouse for many joy-filled years. He was a natural tinkerer who prided himself on his do-it-yourself capabilities. His daughters used to say, with pride, “Our dad can do anything!”
Fred was a quiet and thoughtful man with a quick wit, which served him well as an author of short stories and jokes for newspapers and magazines in addition to plays. Many of his plays were performed and well-received by various theatrical groups, including the Sugar Creek Players in Edinburgh and the Epilogue Players in Indianapolis. Fred loved acting in, directing, and building sets for live stage performances and met his current wife Phyllis in the theatre. They shared two fulfilling decades as strong contributors to the local theatre scene, including the Buck Creek Players and their beloved Epilogue Players, where they received numerous awards sharing this heartfelt avocation.
Fred also enjoyed membership in the Shelbyville Masonic Lodge as well as the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis.
No services will be held at this time, though family members wish to thank their beloved friends and medical staff who provided such excellent support and care.

I’d like to express my sympathy at this sad time. Fred helped me with component selections and specifications when I was a design engineer. He worked for me when I was manager of Component Engineering. He was always a pleasure to work with and contributed to the success of many projects. Thirty-five years later I still have good memories of the times we worked together. I know he will be missed.

I send my love, Mike

We’ve missed Fred very much since his illness took him away from the good life. It was a pleasure to work with him on stage and we enjoyed his gracious company at many social events at their home and ours. Our most sincere condolences to Phyl and the family.
